I can't believe I've never posted on this topic.
So, Bec, when did you know you were a writer? Well, I can relive the moment any time I want, thank you very much.
Romancing the Stone (a freebie on Netflix) premiered in 1984. I watched the beginning and 4 mins and 11 secs into the movie came my Epiphany: YES, I'LL DO EXACTLY THAT WHEN I GROW UP!
Then I laughed my ass off. Still do.

That is an incredibly cook pivotal moment : ) I don't have an cool "a ha!" story, but law school certainly hastened the decision.
That's amazing that you can trace your desire to be a writer to that exact moment! I don't think I have one moment. It was an evolution!
I loved that movie, used to watch it on VHS over and over and over.
Hilarious!
Nice life-changing moment. Now I feel old...1984..."when I grow up"...Jeez, I was already a university drop-out in '84.
It's a great movie. I'll admit I've seen it a "few" times.
I love those shiny moments when the light bulb goes off!
Priceless.
I remember seeing the huge stack of pages for Kathleen Turner’s manuscript and thinking ‘I’ll never be able to write that much.’ It was just a little daunting for a young lad with fancy ambitions.
Wow, that's so cool!!! To know what you'll do from one line of a movie. So very awesome!
Natalie--And cheaper than law school too. ;-) Law school, even if partially finished, is quite an accomplishment.
Jody--I recall, too, my mother wondering why I was laughing so much.
Aaron--The rest of the movie I give a six on a scale of ten.
Janna--Isn't it? And she blows her nose on a note--Ha! before Post-Its.
Alan-- I was seventeen and soon off the college . . . where I majored in psyche for awhile--go figure.
Danielle--Me too. Only the first part.
Tamika--Yup. :-)
L.R.--You're right. I've never written that much still.
It's when she says, "Oh God that's good" that gets me. Sometimes I sob too. *sniff*
Eileen- I liked to write when I had to in school, got good grades and praise, but that moment cemented it.
OK. I'm laughing hard. I had the same epiphany with the same movie. Loved the 80's.
How neat is that? You know the EXACT moment.
T. Anne--Too cool, girl friend.
Angie--Yeah, give or take a few seconds.
My mother and I used to watch Romancing the Stone with a bowl of burnt almond fudge ice cream and a chocolate chip cookie on top.
Thank goodness we only saw it once a year or so. I also loved American Dreamer, which is also about writing!

I adore that movie. Ah, if only being a writer was that much fun.
Mercedes--Yummy, next time I watch, I'll make it point to have that for dessert--yummy, again.
Cate--I hear ya. More sobs of frustration than joy.
Oh my god me too.
Suzy--Yay! Great minds think alike.
What a great moment of revelation! And even better that it still gives you joy when you remember it.
Devon--And it's an '80's memory.
